“Pennsylvania Music Preservation Society, an Allentown nonprofit group, said in a release it’s planning Artvana at the Fairgrounds, which it called “a celebration of artistry, music, food and happiness,” that would run Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27, 2017.
“Allentown … has always offered the perfect backdrop for the arts-centric events, fairs and festivals, and 2018 will continue that tradition of great support for the arts,” the release said. The Music Preservation Society said in its release that the fairgrounds “brings with it far more positives than negatives when it comes to a serious festival of the arts — the largest benefit being the weather-proof environment needed in mid-May.”
The Society launched its 2015 founding with “a German-style music festival in Allentown on May 17, 2015 at Maingate adjacent to Allentown Fairgrounds, according to the group’s website.
Headlining the initial event will be Grammy Award-nominated Alex Meixner, a well-known Allentown-based modern polka musician who has played at Bethlehem’s Musikfest and Oktoberfest.
“Spring Fest is a German style festival similar to MaifestÖ, the German festival celebrating the arrival of spring,” the website says. “Bring the whole family and ‘polka on.’ “ John J. Mosser, Morning Call, March 10, 2105.
